regular visitor since 1976. Although we only play from Monday to Friday you will need to be
available at the theatre from 12.00 noon on Saturday 21st August to 12.00 noon on Saturday
28th August to rehearse and help get our equipment in and out of the theatre. Everyone is
expected to pay their own travel and living expenses and organise their own accommodation.
Company members usually club together to rent cottages, so this need not be too expensive.
There is also the possiblity of an additional charity performance Saturday 4th September.
The Director writes :
This adaptation of the much loved books by Flora Thompson was made for the National Theatre in 1978 where it had great success presented as a promenade production in the Cottesloe Theatre.
There is no narrative to speak of, but the changing times of an agricultural community in Oxfordshire in the late 1880s is brought vividly to life. Using lively folk music and a rich cast of characters, it evokes, from sun up to sun down during a day of
harvest, a vanishing world of agricultural customs seen through the eyes of young Laura.
This is a wonderful ensemble piece and a large number of characters are used to create the
feeling of an entire village community. Apart from the Timms family unit, the roles will be
doubled and trebled so a versatile company of players is needed to create a series of
instantly believable people.
If you have any questions please phone David on 07982 200027 or Colin on 07951 061371.
The Company comprises :
Laura Timms, 10
Edmund Timms, 8
Emma Timms, mother
Albert Timms, father
There are another 38 named speaking parts representing people of the village of Lark Rise – a cross section of ages and types from workers in the fields and houses to the local squire.
