The Voice of the Unheard  / Sankofa

October 24 @ 6:00 pm 8:00 pm

The Voice of the Unheard by Vanessa Owusu. Directed by Clara Onyemere.
Sankofa by Nicole Acquah
Showcasing new writing in development

The Voice of the Unheard  examines what it means to be “black” today, unpicking white privilege and white fragility. This one-woman, bold, political, and provoking performance ventures into areas that are still seriously overlooked in theatre. Vanessa’s aim is to develop this project so that it can tour theatre venues all over the country and have a big reach.

Sankofa is a semi-autobiographical show that explores what it means to be part of the African diaspora. Nicole’s goal for this piece is to blend European and West African storytelling practices to create an engaging narrative that is authentic, resonant and innovative, inspiring multi-cultural thinking and providing a safe space for second generation Black British citizens in particular. She uses music, dance, storytelling and poetry in achieving this.
