DIRECTORS' WORKSHOP : INTRODUCTION TO LABAN

with Brenda Naso

Saturday 8th December from 11.00 to 2.00

This experiential workshop will explore some of the principles of Rudolf Laban's theory of Movement Observation and Analysis with a particular focus on his theories of Effort and Space. The aim of this workshop is to give participants a set of versatile tools that they can use when creating characters, moving on stage or simply to enhance their awareness of the moving body.

Brenda is a Movement and Somatic Psychotherapist. She brings 20 years of mental health practice to the theatre, enhancing performers experiences of embodiment through physical exploration of main themes, and by bringing greater awareness to the nuances of character physicality. Credits include Movement Director for Kindertransport at Theatro Technis and Upstairs at the Gatehouse; Assistant Director for 1984 at Theatro Technis.

Shakespeare for Beginners

ACTORS' WORKSHOP : SHAKESPEARE FOR BEGINNERS

Monday 7th or Wednesday 9th January
from 7.00 to 9.00

Want to perform Shakespeare but have no idea where to start? This free workshop is designed for actors who want to improve their basic understanding of Shakespeare's text, and use this to develop their audition and rehearsal skills. Participants will perform from a variety of scenes and sonnets that utilise different forms of verse and prose, and explore how rhythm and format is used to create character.

Rob Ellis is a professional Theatre Director, with experience in Fringe and Off-West End productions. He trained on The Globe's Directing Studio, and is Associate Artist of Quite Right Theatre, a company specialising in outdoor, family productions of Shakespeare's comedies. He is directing the Tower's production of The Merry Wives of Windsor in 2019, that will be performed in both London and Paris.
