This practical workshop, also suitable for actors, is a chance for directors to explore how to capitalise on and develop their actors' vocal potential.

Together we will address such issues as :
Preparing the voice for performance and maintaining vocal health
Increasing clarity and audibility in different spaces and theatrical contexts;
Finding greater variation and expression in the voice; and
Approaching accent work.

This workshop is designed for directors but is also open to actors, designers or anyone who is interested in theatre.

It will take place in the Frank and Molly Smith Studio at the Tower Theatre, 16 Northwold Road, Stoke Newington, London, N16 7HR.

Colin Guthrie

DIRECTORS' WORKSHOP : EMOTIONAL BLOCKING

with Colin Guthrie

Saturday 13th April from 11.00 to 2.00

Colin Guthrie has acted, directed and musical directed for many Tower shows since joining in 1985. Musical directing credits include The Return of the Marionettes, Telstar, Paradise (a rock 'n' roll fable) and The Producers, which won the coveted Minack Theatre Trophy in 2014. Colin has also composed music for many Tower shows, including David Copperfield, Lark Rise and, most recently, Frankenstein. Acting credits include William Cain in Her Naked Skin and Ian in Shining City and directing credits include The Voysey Inheritance, as well as the last play produced at the Tower's old home, Strangers on a Train.

Rehearsing a play usually involves time spent "blocking" the characters' movements around the stage and making sure they don't bump into the furniture.

But how can you explore the "emotional blocking" of a scene? Who is leading the scene? Where does the energy change? What is the balance of power? This workshop is intended to help actors and directors explore the emotional shape of a scene - tracking the changes that characters go through from the beginning of a scene to the end. Even if it should lead to bumping into the furniture ...

This workshop is designed for directors but is also open to actors, designers or anyone who is interested in theatre.

It will take place in the Frank and Molly Smith Studio at the Tower Theatre, 16 Northwold Road, Stoke Newington, London, N16 7HR.

How to Book : Please contact Angharad Ormond to confirm your place, or if you have any questions. Almost fully booked; limited places remaining.

Price : Free for Tower Company Members or Friends of the Tower
If you are not a member, why not join now and attend the workshop, as well as having access to a whole range of other benefits.

If you would like to facilitate a future Workshop or have a topic you would like the Tower to try and arrange that would be beneficial to actors or directors please contact Angharad Ormond.
