Workshop: Clowning Techniques for Actors
with Julie Joubert
September 5 at 10:00am – 1:00pm
What can clowning techniques bring to our acting toolbox?
This workshop devised by Julie Joubert is designed to introduce you to clowning principles. With a series of games based on physical improvisation, we will explore how the clown’s raw authenticity can help us play characters and dynamics that feel genuine to the audience, across comedy and drama.
The session will include:
· Gentle Feldenkreis physical warm up to soften the body and go beyond our repetitive, habitual ways of moving
· Small-group games to build confidence in physical improvisation
· Opportunities to try out clowning performance in front of the group in a fully safe supportive environment.
You will learn:
· Tools to help build trust with other performers and to move as part of an ensemble
· How to use the audience’s energy in your own performance
· Playfulness to improve your self-trust during performance.
While this is a movement-based workshop, the games can be adapted to all levels and abilities.
