Remembering the Tower in your will
The Tower Theatre that you see today couldn’t exist without the money left to us in bequests from former members. When we moved to Stoke Newington, we had just enough money to buy the building, but it was only through legacies that we were able to fit it out and create the wonderful facilities that you enjoy today.
Funds given to the company in this way enabled us to equip the auditorium with some of most comfortable seating of any non-professional theatre, to install the lift to enable access to the auditorium for the elderly and disabled, and, most recently, to create a splendid much-needed extra rehearsal room.
Our revenue from ticket sales, membership fees, bar profit and so on pays for the direct costs of putting on productions and the day-to-day running costs of the company. However, we cannot make any further major improvements without additional funding, so future legacies would make a significant impact on our ability to enable the Tower to retain its position as one of the foremost non-professional theatre companies in the UK.
We have several projects that we would like to be able to fund – for example, replacing some of our ageing technical equipment (some of which is over 30 years old), extending the lift to reach the new rehearsal room, and acquiring a building for a scenery workshop to replace the unsatisfactory railway arches that we use now.
So do please consider leaving a gift to the Tower in your will. We advise you to seek professional financial and legal advice when making a will, but do explore the possible tax advantages of leaving money to the Tower. As we are a Registered Charity, legacies are tax-free and if you make a gift to us in your will, its value is deducted from your estate before calculating inheritance tax. This way, you can support the theatre and possibly reduce your potential tax liability at the same time.
