Featuring this month:
Ephemera is a new project exploring free-flowing songwriting on themes of childhood memories and philosophical musings, led by Rebecca Wing (saxophonist, vocalist, composer) and Vato Klemera (Pianist, Composer). Bridging ethereal jazz improvisation with granular and tape-emulated looping, the project attends to the ephemerality of tape as a musical focus, and metaphor for reminiscing. Rebecca and Vato adapt and explore new electronic sounds alongside reflective spoken word and lyrics.

music for hiccups was born in 2021 after a few improvised home sessions between singer Chiara Bacci and modular synthesist Nicola Lancerotti.
Because both artists come from the jazz milieu, improvisation is the key around which this whole project revolves. The duo aims to take over the thread woven by eminent voice-electronics duos such as those of Richard Scott with Audrey Chen or Sidsel Endresen with Stian
Westerhus, and through that to go in the direction of a musical body of organic and malleable character, interactive and lively.
In more recent developments, they are now exploring the realm of
quadraphonic/multiphonic spatialized sound, which adds a layer of complexity both in the improvising process and the sonic result.
They have recently released “settembre” for Italian tape label tsss tapes.

The trio of Bisset/Garford/Sanders first played in Birmingham in May this year.
The musical partnership between saxophonist George Garford and guitarist John Bisset is founded on their obvious personal connection. Both brilliant improvisers in their own right, their collaborative work is a vehicle for far-reaching exploration. Joining them for the second time in Birmingham will be percussionist Mark Sanders, who is well known for his ability to attune to and amplify every musical situation in which he appears.
