1947 – 2025
We are extremely saddened to hear of the death of Bill Dudley at the end of May. An outstanding theatre designer, he started his career at the Tower in the 1960s before going on to work at the National Theatre, the Royal Opera House, the Royal Court Theatre and many other venues both in the U.K. and abroad.

Bill was President of the Friends of the Tower Theatre for a while and visited us on a number of occasions to give entertaining and interesting talks about his work. His engaging style and amusing anecdotes always made these events memorable.
Tower member Robert Pennant Jones, who knew Bill from his earliest days at the Tower, has written this tribute. And here are links to Bill’s obituary in The Guardian and to the one in The Stage which both mention his time with us.
Our condolences to his wife Lucy, his children and to his former partner Sue Plummer (who met Bill at the Tower where she was also a designer).
